On January 23, 2007 a 13 year-old student at Berner Middle School in Massapequa suffered sudden cardiac arrest. This was witnessed by fellow students who immediately notified authorities. EMS was called while Christine Fink, RN, the school nurse, responded with the AED.

The student was found to be in Ventricular Fibrillation and was shocked once with the AED. The boy's pulse was restored and he started to breathe again. After being transported to Nassau University Medical Center, he was transferred to Schneider's Children's Hospital where he received an implanted automated defibrillator. He has since been discharge back home.

Congratulations to the entire life-saving team at Massapequa, and especially to Christine Fink on an outstanding job well-done!
